Dick Miller, the character actor seen in a host of movies from Gremlins to Terminator, has died at the age of 90.

Miller’s career spanned more than 60 years and over 100 movies, beginning with a glut of work for legendary director Roger Corman in a wealth of thrillers and noir b-movies, including cult classic Bucket of Blood.

He would go on to work with screen icons like James Cameron, John Sayles and Martin Scorsese.

In Terminator, he played the ill-feted gun shop owner in the memorable scene in which Schwarzenegger’s cyborg assassin loads up on weapons, including an Uzi 9mm and a shotgun (sadly plasma rifles are yet to be invented), which he ultimately turns on Miller’s character.

He also forged a career-long friendship with director Joe Dante, appearing in almost every film he made, including post-Jaws horror movie Piranha in 1978, another cult classic.

Miller also starred in Gremlins, The Howling, Innerspace and The ‘Burbs for Dante.

Paying tribute, Dante called him one of his ‘most treasured collaborators’.

Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright also tweeted:

He is survived by his wife Lainie, a daughter Barbara and a granddaughter, Autumn.
