We can imagine that the make-up budget for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is pretty hefty, given the variety of aliens and colours we see on screen.

And it turns out they really went all out on the make-up, and when we say all out, we mean absolutely everywhere – so spare a thought for poor Michael Rooker (Yondu).

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the main cast of the movie discussed what went on behind-the-scenes and Zoe Saldana (Gamora) started things off by revealing how her green make-up was applied.

Saying that she tried to cut corners in the make-up chair: "I was like, 'Guys, they won't see this.' They were like, 'No, we've got to paint it.' I had green for a month after shooting!"

However, Rooker was in disbelief at Saldana's story, adding: "They forced me to paint the entire – I mean, you didn't have to paint everything?"

Kimmel suggested the star went "method" and "all out", and Rooker explained: "My make-up team were a guy and a girl, and I thought they kind of got off on that."

The host then joked: "You went for the blue balls too."

Hmm. Maybe a bit too much information there, guys. Now we'll be thinking about that every time we see Yondu on screen.

While the sequel is almost upon us, it seems that it will definitely be worth the wait – at least going by early reactions, which have been overwhelmingly positive.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is released in UK cinemas on April 28 and US cinemas on May 5.
