‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Sequel Gets Title

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel has gotten a fitting title.

“Yes, the official title for the @Guardians sequel is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2,” writer-director James Gunn tweeted on Monday.

The title, which is more common for comicbooks than comicbook films, likely comes from the famous mixtape “Awesome Mix Vol. 1,” which the Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) listens to and that played a pivotal role in the original film.

Gunn confirmed the news after Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige let the title slip prematurely during an interview with Collider at a press junket for “Ant-Man.” Filming is set to begin next year in London.

“We start shooting ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2′ in February-March 2016,” Feige told the site.

Marvel/Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2″ hits theaters on May 5, 2017. The first film hauled in a whopping $774 million worldwide.
