‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ trailer: Meet Star-Lord’s dad

At the start of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot find themselves transformed from zeroes into superheroes. Well, sort of.

“They’re kind of famous and they’re kind of rock stars in their own mind,” says executive producer Jonathan Schwartz. “They’re a little bit more full of themselves, they’re a little bit more confident.”

How exactly does that affect the group power dynamic? You’ll have to wait until the film is released on May 5 to find out — but the movie’s latest trailer, which debuted Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, gives some hints about what is to come, including some adorable Baby Groot moments, plenty of heavy artillery, some sort of team-up between the Guardians and their former foe Nebula (Karen Gillan), and an encounter with Star-Lord’s dad, Ego (Kurt Russell), all to Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 hit “The Chain” (hello there, Awesome Mix Vol. 2).

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, and Elizabeth Debicki.
