Guardians Of the Galaxy 2: James Gunn Shares Baby Groot Storyboard

Director James Gunn has shared a small (adorably small) glimpse at one scene in upcoming Marvel adventure ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ - starring baby Groot.

The small sketch depicts Groot carrying, and maybe biting, a creature that could be Bradley Cooper’s Rocket, but we suspect is some kind of alien creature.

Gunn shared the image on Instagram, revealing he had just shot the scene depicted in the sketch. He also offered an insight into his creative process. “Recently I mentioned how I draw every single shot in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ before we ever shoot a frame,” he said.

“I’ll spread whole scenes over my office floor or all around the walls, sometimes hundreds of shots, and it will give me an idea of how the scene flows, what’s smooth, what’s jumbled, and even what works comedically. Over the entire film I draw thousands of these thumbnails.

“Many of [the sketches] are messy and it’s impossible for anyone other than me to tell what they are. Some of them get turned over to accomplished storyboard artists to flesh out. Some of them go directly to our pre-visualization team to turn into animated storyboards. And others just stay in their primitive state.”

Gunn plans to share a similar image each Wednesday during the film’s shoot, with the accompanying hashtag #WhatWeShotWednesday. We look forward to next week’s offering!

“I’m not going to explain what the shot is,” added Gunn. “But maybe you can match the thumbnail to the shot when the movie is released.”

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, will be released on 28 April 2017.
