This Guy Upcycled Old Bed Springs Into a Light Fixture

From House Beautiful

Anyone who’s in need of a new light fixture and looking for a new DIY to dedicate some time to needs to consider this concept: turning rusty old bed springs into a light fixture. A TikToker made a tutorial for how to do this, and all you really need are two materials to get the job done.

TikToker @clintonaverytharp is a self-proclaimed “Furniture Scientist and Throw Pillow Expert,” according to his bio. Among upcycled chairs and tables, his latest creation is a DIY bed spring light fixture. While many would consider a rusty bed frame junk, Tharp saw an opportunity, turning the scrap into a unique light.

So how to do it? To start, you'll need a bed spring and a couple strings of garden lights. Make sure the lights have clips on them and that each bulb works. Once you’ve confirmed they’re all in good shape, take the bulbs out, wire them through each spring, and screw the bulbs back in. Tharp filled 40 springs with two boxes of 20 lights from Walmart that cost a total of $14. When that’s all set, plug it in!

People in the comments are obsessed with this DIY concept. One person suggested the fixture would look stunning if hung over a dinner table. Another person wrote that they want to attempt this DIY but cut the middle part out and replace it with a full length mirror. Bottom line: There just may be reason not to trash an old box spring. What do you think—trash or treasure?
