Starting a new job is scary and exciting, and while most of us usually just observe, take in information and smile and nod at people whose names we won’t remember, it seems that’s not what everybody does on their first day.

San Francisco-based digital marketer, Jon Caña, has gone viral after he made a massive blunder on his first day at work at advertising company, Essence.

Jon arrived in the office to find a company welcome pack and a card, welcoming him to the team.

He thought this was a nice touch and when he came back to his desk later on in the day to find a bunch of flowers sitting on it, he didn’t even consider the fact that they might not be for him.

So much so that Jon decided to ask his new boss to take some photos of him posing with the flowers in various locations around the office.

“First day feels,” he captioned the hilarious photos on Twitter.

“I just assumed they were kind of part of this whole first day experience. I was like, ‘Wow, this day just keeps getting better and better,'” Jon told Buzzfeed.

However, fast-forward a few months, and while his colleagues didn’t have the heart to tell him at the time, the flowers weren’t actually for him at all.

“But they had seen me go around the office having this mini photo shoot and and they just felt too bad to say anything,” he said.

Jon took to his Twitter to explain the whole situation, saying he was ‘cackling’ with disbelief.

“I found out these flowers were misplaced on my desk and supposed to be for someone going on maternity leave because they don’t give flowers to new hires, but they saw me taking pics with them and felt too bad to take them away,” he wrote.

After his tweets went viral, Jon updated his followers with another photo, which showed him holding a small bouquet of flowers his colleague had given him as a joke at work that morning.

“One of the publishers we work with came in for a meeting with us this morning and brought me this and she was pregnant,” he wrote.

“One of the funnier things about this whole story is that I work at media agency where one of the goals of our campaigns is to go viral on the internet… and so I presented my tweet at a team meeting today.”
