Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton is officially coming to Disney+ later this year, 15 months earlier than its scheduled cinema release. This is not a drill, folks.

The multi-award-winning Broadway musical, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, has been fast-tracked to Disney's subscription service, with the premiere now hitting Disney+ on July 3, 2020, just in time for Independence Day in the US on July 4.

Transforming your very own living room into The Room Where It Happened, the "live capture" of a 2016 performance promises to combine the best elements of live theatre, film, and streaming for a "wholly new way to experience Hamilton".

The movie will give fans a front-row seat at the June 2016 production of Hamilton at The Richard Rogers Theatre on Broadway, with Lin-Manuel as Alexander Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, and Leslie Odom Jr as Aaron Burr.

Frozen and Mindhunter star Jonathan Groff is part of the cast, too!

In a statement, Lin-Manuel Miranda thanked Disney for pushing forward Hamilton's release "in light of the world turning upside down", as the world grapples with the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
