Hans Zimmer Retires From Scoring Superhero Movies

Composer Hans Zimmer has announced his retirement from superhero films.

During an interview with BBC’s ‘HARDtalk’, the 58-year-old composer and record producer revealed that he will no longer be scoring superhero movies.

“I have officially retired from the superhero business,” he said. “I did Batman Begins with Chris [Nolan] 12 years ago, so The Dark Knight Trilogy might be three movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life.”

And it sounds as though ‘Batman V Superman’ came with its own problems…

“This one was very hard for me to do,” he explained, “to try to find new language.”

Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has an impressive 150 film titles to his name, including ‘The Lion King’, ‘Inception’, ‘Interstellar’ and even the recent Superman solo film, ‘Man of Steel’.

In fact, themes from ‘Man of Steel’ can be heard throughout the ‘Batman V Superman’ score, linking back to the hero’s most recent origin story re-telling.

But after working on the entire Dark Knight Trilogy as well as Ben Affleck’s first outing as Batman, it seems as though Zimmer has spent plenty of time composing themes around the Dark Knight… and perhaps now it’s time to move on.

Of course, Hans Zimmer isn’t retiring completely, and we’ll next hear his work alongside the upcoming Gore Verbinski film, ‘A Cure For Wellness’.

But for now, Hans Zimmer will be hanging up his cape.

Who will continue his good work into the two upcoming ‘Justice League’ movies? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I’m betting we’ll at least see Skrillex return.
