Harry Potter characters who could be in 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

Four characters who could feasibly apparate in for a cameo…

Will we see Dumbledore return?

The news that J.K. Rowling will return to the wizarding world with her Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has sent Pottheads the world over into a tailspin at the prospect of paying another visit to Diagon Alley.

The film will be based on Rowling's 2001 book of the same name, a fictional Hogwarts textbook penned by magizoologist extraordinaire, Newt Scamander.

Given that the author and rookie scriptwriter has been careful to set the film 70 years before Harry met Ron and Hermione and their story began, we're unlikely to see the much-loved trio return to the big screen. But that doesn't mean we won't see the return of some of our favourite wizards and witches.

Here are four characters who could feasibly apparate in for a cameo…

Albus Dumbledore
Roughly 16 years older than Mr Scamander, it would be inconceivable for Newt not to happen across good old Dumbledore at some point during his adventures - either at Hogwarts or the Ministry of Magic. Even as a young man, we reckon Albus would've had some wisdom to impart.

Gellert Grindelwald
Every film needs a villain, and in this case, Gellert Grindelwald looks to be the perfect man for the job. A sadistic dark wizard who murdered his way across Europe for the fun of it, Grindelwald was Voldemort to Dumbledore's Harry Potter. And if you thought Voldy was bad, you ain't seen nothing, friends. Conveniently, Scamander's story will be set smack in the middle of his rise to power.

The Hogwarts ghosts
Given that Newt will, at some point, become headmaster of Hogwarts, it stands to reason we'll get the chance to wander through the castle's hallowed halls once more. Frankly, we'd be disappointed if we didn't see John Cleese return as Nearly Headless Nick or Kelly Macdonald as Helena Ravenclaw. After all, rumour has it that Scamander himself ends up as one of them.

Dobby
As annoying as he was, Dobby's demise at the end of Deathly Hallows Part 1 was a true tearjerker, so it would be lovely to see him return… though, probably not for the duration of the movie. We're not sure anyone can handle that much Dobby.
