Hasbro Bows To Eight-Year-Old Fan And Adds Rey To Star Wars Monopoly

The ‘WheresRey’ hashtag has now become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

After being hauled over the coals by fans – and one angry eight-year-old girl – for not featuring a Rey figure in the new Star Wars edition of Monopoly, it’s bowed to pressure and agreed to add her to the ensemble.

Be warned, there are a couple of mild spoilers ahead…

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Hasbro said: “We love the passion fans have for Rey, and are happy to announce that we will be making a running change to include her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game available later this year.”

Perhaps it was the untethered fury from an eight-year-old called Annie Rose which ultimately swayed the toy giant.

Her mother, writer Carrie Goldman, sent a heart-felt letter penned by Annie Rose to Hasbro via Twitter, questioning the omission, while Finn, Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren and Darth Vader figures all feature in the new game.

The company then wrote back to counter that the new updated version of the property game was developed while Daisy Ridley’s character Ren was still under wraps.

But now, it’s decided it best not to incur any further wrath from the under-10s, and will include Rey in an updated version, out later this year.

Hailing the announcement with the message ‘SOCIAL MEDIA WORKS!!!’, Goldman also posted the response from Hasbro.

The 'WheresRey’ hashtag has also called out other Star Wars play-sets for not featuring the lead character from 'The Force Awakens’.

Disney, which made the movie, has also been accused of sexism in the past, after Black Widow and Gamora action figures failed to appear in Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy playsets too.
