'I hate it': Carol Vorderman left furious by 'insulting' and 'offensive' Gillette advert

Carol Vorderman found herself in the midst of a heated debate on Good Morning Britain today as the show continued its discussion on Gillette’s controversial new advert.

The shaving company’s new campaign highlights the negative behaviour of some men, showing examples of sexual harassment and bullying.

GMB host Piers Morgan passionately ranted about the ad yesterday, arguing it was anti-masculinity and that a similar campaign never would have been made about women.

Vorderman was in firm agreement with Morgan and even said she ‘hated’ the controversial ad.

After Marina Fogle told the large panel that the ad isn’t a critique of all men, but just certain types of masculinity, Vorderman interrupted and said: “I’m sorry, I have to interject here. You’re implying all men were like that.

“I know alpha males who are heroes and veterans and they can still be charming. It’s slagging off men who came before.”

She added of the advert: “I hated it. I really did. I found it insulting, I found it offensive. I’m not offended by anything, but I was offended by it.”

Journalist Martin Daubney, who was also on Vorderman’s side of the argument, then described the campaign as one of the worst men’s branding adverts he’d ever seen.

“I’ve worked in men’s media for 25 years and it’s the worst men’s branding advert I have ever seen, because it signal boosts the very worst things the very worst do and says ‘all men, this is your problem’,” he said.

“Here we have an issue: the bad things men do are constantly signal boosted by the media and social media, and the good things men do are not.

“More to the point,” he continued. “Where men need help: 75% are suicides, 95% are jail inmates, 85% are the homeless – the worst educational attainers are white working-class boys. No one cares. Why don’t Gillette do that? Help those people.
