Haunting of Hill House season 2 won't be 'directly' linked to the first

From Digital Spy

Ahead of the release of The Haunting of Hill House season two, creator Mike Flanagan has opened up about whether it will have any connections to the first instalment.

The Doctor Sleep director has developed the show's second run, which returns with the new title of The Haunting of Bly Manor and will see the core cast members come back but with new roles.

And now, Flanagan has revealed whether we can expect to see any other links to the first outing.

"There's not a narrative connection, but there are little Easter eggs, for sure, not only in small details but in moments of dialogue and in some of the ideas from Hill House," Flanagan told Entertainment Weekly.

"There are definitely going to be things that will set off that little dopamine rush that those kind of connections create. But it's not a direct connection from a story point of view."

But not to worry, as Flanagan previously promised "a tonne of wonderful surprises" to come in the second season, which is based on Henry James' book The Turn of the Screw, as well as a number of his other ghost stories.

"There's a tonne of wonderful surprises to this season that come from some of his [Henry James] ghost stories that have never been adapted. But they all thematically fit together really nicely," Flanagan told Digital Spy.

"So it's been a real joy crafting the narrative of this season. And I think if people liked season one, there's going to be a lot more to like in the second season."

The Haunting of Bly Manor is expected to premiere in 2020.
