Haze Shrouds Lake Mohave as Efforts Continue Against California-Nevada Wildfire

Fire crews in California and Nevada continued efforts on Tuesday, August 1, to contain a wildfire that spread from southern California into Nevada’s Clark County.

The York fire, which originated in the Mojave National Preserve, spread quickly due to high winds on Sunday, according to official fire reports. “Firefighters observed a heavy downpour for approximately 15 minutes in the early morning hours of August 1, which has moderated fire behavior,” according to the report.

By Tuesday morning, the fire burned 80,437 acres (125 square miles) and was 23 percent contained.
