Helena Bonham Carter, Elizabeth Banks & Mindy Kaling Join Ocean’s 11 Spin-Off

The all-female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ spin-off, nicknamed ‘Ocean’s Ocho’ as it centres on a team of 8 master criminals, would appear to have cast five of its key players.

The already-announced Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett will be joined by Helena Bonham Carter, Elizabeth Banks and Mindy Kaling in the Gary Ross-directed movie, according to Showbiz 411.

Banks dropped out of directing the third ‘Pitch Perfect’ movie last week, which might beg the question whether this ‘Ocean’s’ movie was the project (or perhaps one of a number of projects) she needed to make room in her schedule for.

No character details are mentioned, but the report does claim the ‘Ocean’s’ spin-off will shoot in New York City in early 2017 - and would appear to confirm that Jennifer Lawrence, who had been linked to the film early on, will not be appearing.

We should note that studio Warner Bros has not officially verified any of this just yet, but if this news is on the level, that means there are still three key actresses yet to be cast in the core ensemble.

Bullock will take the lead as the sister of George Clooney’s Danny Ocean, who it seems follows much the same line of work as her brother. Blanchett will be her right-hand woman, and together they mastermind a major heist.

However, while the story is set within the same universe and Steven Soderbergh (director of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ and its two sequels) will produce, none of the cast of the earlier films are expected to appear.

Now, let us ponder which other big-name actresses might join this illustrious line-up…
