Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has added Ron Perlman to the cast as the voice of Optimus Primal, leader of the Maximals.

The Hellboy actor is no stranger to the role having previously voiced the character in the animated series Transformers: Power of the Primes, as reported by Collider.

Perlman joins Hamilton's Anthony Ramos, who will play Noah, an army veteran who watches out for his younger brother, as well as Dexter and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star Luna Lauren Vélez who will be playing Noah's mother.

Directed by Grown-ish's Steven Caple Jr, Rise of the Beasts will be set in New York in 1994.

A press release revealed: "Returning to the action and spectacle that first captured moviegoers around the world 14 years ago with the original Transformers, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a 90s globetrotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons."

Other information that has been teased is that the movie's main hero will be, of course, Optimus Prime, who will face a villain named Scourge, who has 'big clawed hands and smoking exhaust ports on shoulders'. Yikes,
