Why Henry Cavill’s Superman Wears a Black Costume In Justice League

The upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie features some of DC’s biggest superheroes finally getting together on the big screen. And while the impressive ‘Justice League’ sneak peek from Comic Coon gave us a glimpse of Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and even Cyborg, it left out one of its biggest players – Superman who, as we all remember, was buried at the end of ‘Batman v Superman’.

And we’ve yet to see the Superman return.

That is, until now…

Appearing on Instagram, ‘Batman V Superman’ star Henry Cavill has unveiled a teaser close-up of Superman’s new costume with the hashtag #Superman.

And when we say close up…

Although this gives us very little to go on, eagle-eyed readers will no doubt spot the unusual colour scheme for this new costume – that’s right, it looks as though Superman could sport a black costume.

And that’s a familiar sight for comic book fans…

Following the events of ‘Batman V Superman’ it looks increasingly likely that DC’s big screen universe will be following the ‘Death of Superman’ storyline… at least in some way. The seminal comic book, released in 1993, saw both Doomsday and Superman dying of their wounds after an enormous battle.

A scene which closely resembles the final moments of ‘Batman V Superman’.

Following the death (and revival) of Superman in the comic book series, the iconic hero sported a black costume with white emblem and trim… and it looks as though this could be the inspiration for Henry Cavill’s new suit.

That is, unless Cavill is being sneaky and using a black and white filter.

Either way, we’ve got our first glimpse at Superman’s new suit. Now it’s just a year and three months until we found out whether or not it’s the iconic black and white costume.

‘Justice League: Part One’ stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Ezra Miller as The Flash.

Zack Snyder will direct based on a screenplay by Chris Terrio.

‘Justice League: Part One’ heads to cinemas on 17 November 2017.
