High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has landed her next movie role in the reboot of 2019's Polar which will see her re-team with Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen.

The Black Kaiser sees Mikkelsen take on the titular role as the most deadly assassin in the world (via Variety).

When Mikkelsen's Duncan Vizla, AKA The Black Kaiser, uncovers an evil conspiracy which is protecting a syndicate of killers, he is brought out of early retirement after becoming the prime target of his former employer who considers him a liability to the firm.

Based on the Dark Horse graphic novel Polar by Victor Santos, the action spy thriller will be directed by Unhinged's Derrick Borte, who replaces the previously announced director Jonas Akerlund.

Filming for the reboot, which sees Mikkelsen taking on executive producing duties alongside Martin Moszkowicz, will begin in the autumn.

In the first adaptation of Santos' graphic novel, Hudgens starred as Duncan's neighbour Camille, who is kidnapped by an army of ruthless killers intent on killing the retired assassin. As of writing, it is unclear whether Hudgens will take on the same role again, though it seems highly likely.

Meanwhile, Hudgens announced her engagement to partner Cole Tucker earlier this year.

The actress, who is best known for her portrayal of Gabriella Montez in Disney's films, took to Instagram to make the announcement. Sharing a photo of herself and Cole beaming at the camera, she captioned the post: "YES. We couldn’t be happier."

Elsewhere, Hannibal star Hugh Dancy offered up a disappointing update for a fourth season, saying: "We keep saying, when we get asked: 'Oh, we'd love to do it,' which is true. Maybe it'll take one of us to say: 'I will absolutely never do a fourth season of Hannibal', but that would be a lie."

The Black Kaiser is yet to receive a release window.
