Hilary Swank has said that she’s been turning down movie roles because she is currently caring for her sick father.

Once a staple among the A-list, the double Oscar-winner has been notably absent from Hollywood in recent years.

But now she’s revealed she’s stepped back to care for her dad, Stephen, a former Chief Master Sergeant in the Oregon Air National Guard, who recently underwent a lung transplant.

Speaking to Huffpost Live, she said: “My dad is living with me. I’m his sole caretaker right now.

“It’s a certain amount of time, but in a lifespan it’s a blink of an eye. There’s been job opportunities I’ve passed on, and things that I said ‘I can’t’, but really what we’re here for is our family.

“There is nothing I want to do more other than being with my dad in this time of need.

“And if it wasn’t me taking care of him, I think I would always look back and regret that opportunity to be able to take care of him and help him through this extraordinary time.”

Swank, who got her break in the sequel ‘The Next Karate Kid’, made her name in the celebrated 1999 drama 'Boys Don’t Cry’, for which she won the Best Actress Oscar, aged just 25.

She then went on to win another Best Actress Oscar for her role as boxer Maggie Fitzgerald in Clint Eastwood’s 'Million Dollar Baby’ in 2004.

Her last major role was in Tommy Lee Jones’s 'The Homesman’ last year, but before that she’d not made a movie since 2011.

Next up, she’s voicing a character in animated movie ‘Spark’, alongside Jessica Biel and Susan Sarandon, which is due out next year.
