Yahoo Movies Hit and run driver who drove back to crash scene after hitting cyclist jailed
A hit-and-run driver who killed a cyclist before returning to the scene to rubber-neck the fatal crash he caused has been jailed for less than two years.
Dominik Dabrowski, 31, ploughed into Kibreab Tewelderbrhan, 29, shortly before 3am on October 30 last year.
He sped off but returned minutes later to watch the aftermath.
He was caught when CCTV showed him driving his Volkswagen van in a loop to return to the crash scene in Lewisham Road, Smethwick, in the West Midlands.
A court heard that despite the best efforts from paramedics, the victim, from Handsworth, Birmingham, died in hospital the following day.
Dabrowski initially told a friend, who he rented the van from, there had been a crash which damaged his headlight but the other driver had fled.
But he was traced and arrested by police days later before being charged over the fatal collision.
Dabrowski, of no fixed address, admitted causing death by careless driving at Wolverhampton Crown Court and was jailed for 20 months.

Speaking afterwards, Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, of West Midlands Police, said:
"Mr Tewelderbrhan lost his life through no fault of his own.
"The collision caused damage to the front of the van, including the headlight, so there is little doubt Dabrowksi would have been aware of what happened.
"It is not clear what caused Dabrowski to hit the bike but CCTV showed him returning past the scene soon after and doing nothing to assist.
“He will have to live with the consequences of his actions as will the victim’s family who have lost a loved one."
