HK FilMart: 9ers Signs Exclusive Pact with Daemyung Culture Factory

HONG KONG — South Korean sales company 9ers Entertainment has signed a deal with Daemyung Culture Factory that gives 9ers an exclusive right to handle international sales of Daemyung titles.

Daemyung is best known for its investment and distribution of the megahit Korean documentary “My Love, Don’t Cross that River.” Daemyung also sponsors the Daemyung Culture Wave Award at the annual Busan International Film Festival.

“Clown of A Salesman,” which 9ers launched at this week’s FilMart, is the first Daemyung-backed-distributed film whose international sales is handled by 9ers under the pact agreement.

“Clown” is the debut feature of first-time director Jo Chi-un, starring Kim In-kwon (“C’est Si Bon”), Park Cheol-min (“Secret Temptation”) and Lee Joo-sil (“Roaring Currents”).

The film is about a father who, in order to pay his daughter’s medical bills, takes a strange job with a company that provides free entertainment to lonely old ladies.

In addition to “Clown,” 9ers picked up two other market debut titles: “Trap” and “Oddysseo.”

“Trap” is soft-core porn director Bong Man-dae (“The Sweet Sex and Love”)’s latest erotic thriller. The film is now being submitted to Korea’s Jeonju Festival. The director’s recent work “Playboy Bong” has been invited to the Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland.

“Odysseo” is a 3D screen film adaptation of the world’s biggest art circus, Cavalia. Directed by Normand Latuourelle (“‘Cirque du Soleil”), the original theatre circus has received amicable responses since launched in 2003.

The Cavalia show landed in Hong Kong this week and pitched what it bills as the world’s largest tent in Central District.
