Andy Serkis first came to fame in the Lord of the Rings movies as Gollum, and has since starred as Gollum again for the Hobbit trilogy. But not content with starring in Middle Earth the motion capture genius seems hell-bent on taking over every franchise.
Not only has he been in 'King Kong', 'Tintin' and 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' but he's also set to helm a live action 'Jungle Book' movie. Safe to say Serkis is quickly taking over the world and now the actor is set to take on another huge franchise that's even bigger than 'King Kong', 'Tintin' and 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' put together.
That's right; Serkis has been announced amongst the cast of the new Star Wars: Episode VII movie meaning that as well as being in Middle Earth & Planet Earth he'll now also be seen in space! But what is in store for Serkis when he goes to a galaxy far, far away?
Truth is we don't know yet. There's no indication as to whether or not he'll be appearing in person, or taking on yet another fantastic motion capture role. Unfortunately for Serkis, if he were to take on yet another motion capture role (in which he's fantastic) it's still unclear as to whether or not avatars can win oscars. (Seriously someone get Serkis an Oscar)
Serkis joins new additions to the Star Wars franchise John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow as well as returning Star Wars icons Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker.
Serkis isn't the only Lord of the Rings and Hobbit personnel to be attached to the new Star Wars trilogy as a potential April Fool's joke (that so far remains unconfirmed as anything) saw Peter Jackson accidentally reveal that he had a script for Star Wars: Episode VIII
Daniel Wood is a long-time 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' fan after his dad read him both books as bedtime stories as a child. Of course back then he didn't understand a word he was hearing, so he's grateful they made films. Follow Daniel Wood on Twitter.
