Hocus Pocus 2 writer has just dished some revelations on the cult classic sequel in time for Halloween.

Released last year and marking a comeback for the Sanderson sisters — played by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker — the follow-up to 1993's Hocus Pocus didn't include some beloved characters, such as protagonist Max (Omri Katz).

It turns out that the original sequel script by Jen D'Angelo did feature a cameo from adult Max that ended up on the cutting room floor.

"There was a version where Max had a cameo," D'Angelo told Entertainment Weekly.

"We love these characters so much and they're so iconic that if we do see them, we want them to really have a reason for being in the story, not just to be able to see them and check it off the list."

D'Angelo explained that the scene she wrote featured Max "very briefly" and saw him "able to have one quick moment with the Sanderson sisters" after the new group of teens resurrected the witches on Halloween night.

But Max wasn't the only original cast member that was initially part of the sequel's script and ultimately cut. While Thora Birch didn't return as fan-favourite Dani due to scheduling conflicts, it seems that bullies Jay (Tobias Jelinek) and Ice (Larry Bagby) were also written into a short scene.

"There was also a version where Jay and Ice came back, because I have such a soft spot for them," D'Angelo admitted.

"I find them very emotional also. Even though they're these cartoonish bullies, they're sweet. They get a real punishment at the end: they're locked in the cages for how long? They've been humbled."

The bullies were due to show their true colours in Hocus Pocus 2, with D'Angelo saying she was "so sad" not to have the scene in the final cut.

"One of the jokes that naturally had to fall out that I was so sad to lose was that Ice and Jay were handing out candy, and they saw the Sanderson sisters fly past," she said. "You think they're going to jump in and save the day, but they immediately run and hide because they're cowards."

Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 are streaming on Disney+.
