Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Mitchell Drinkwell-Deveraux's heartbreaking final scenes have aired in Hollyoaks.

Last week, Toby (Bobby Gordon) and Celeste (Andrea Ali) revealed their plans to blackmail Mitchell (Imran Adams) into leaving the village forever by incriminating him over Lisa Loveday's death.

In Monday's (November 23) first-look episode on E4, Mitchell begged his brother to let him visit husband Scott (Ross Adams) and his family one more time before he left.

"I can't take that risk. You're leaving now. No goodbyes," Toby insisted.

At the same time, Celeste snuck her way into Mitchell's apartment under the guise that she wanted a glass of water.

Just as Toby was about to see Mitchell off, Martine (Kéllé Bryan) confronted them to ask where Mitchell had been. Even though he wanted to confess all, Mitchell instead insisted he'd explain later and went off with Toby.

Celeste rejoined them to reveal why she'd got into Mitchell's flat, explaining that she'd taken one of Scott's hairbrushes in order to plant his DNA on Lisa's body.

"If you breathe a word about any of this, you're both going to prison," she warned, with Toby threatening: "You can't talk to Martine, Walter, Scott or anyone you love ever again."

Instead, Celeste decided Mitchell would make sure his loved ones didn't ask questions. Later, Martine received a video message from a tearful Mitchell explaining that he was leaving the village to take a new job.

"Please don't try and find me or [whatever]. I need to do this on my own," he explained. "I love you. Goodbye."

In heartbreaking final scenes, Scott happened to cross paths with Mitchell on his way out of town, and Mitchell had to lie to his husband that he'd fallen out of love with him.

"I won't give up on you," Scott promised.

Mitchell coldly told Scott that he'd "given up" on their marriage, before turning around and sobbing as he walked away from his husband for the last time.

It was announced in August that Imran Adams would be leaving his role as Mitchell after less than two years in the role.

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
