A house that has served as a location for The Godfather and Beyoncé’s Black Is King film has gone on sale with an asking price of £90 million, making it the most expensive current listing in the USA.

The Beverly House boasts 18 bedrooms over28,975 sq ft, as well as an Olympic sized swimming pool, its own Art Deco-style nightclub and 3.5 acres of gardens inspired by Roman emperor Hadrian’s villa in Tivoli.

The Beverly Hills home was designed by architect Gordon Kaufman, and built in 1926 by banking tycoon Milton Getz. In 1946, it was bought by Hollywood actor Marion Davies for her partner, newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. While in Davies’s possession, the house served as the honeymoon destination for John F Kennedy and wife Jackie following their wedding in 1953.

The spectacular columned pool area was designed by Davies to reference the famous Roman-inspired Neptune Pool at Hearst’s San Simeon residence Hearst Castle. It has since served as a location for scenes in Beyoncé’s 2020 film and visual album Black Is King.

The house was also the setting for one of the most famous scenes in cinema history. It appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather in 1972, as the home of movie producer Jack Woltz, who wakes up one morning to find the severed head of his prized racehorse wrapped in his bedsheets.

The house also featured as a location in 1992’s The Bodyguard, starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.

Along with its illustrious history, the house boasts an 82ft long entrance hall with a 22ft high, hand-painted ceiling. Further inside the property, visitors will find a two-storey library, billiards room, cinema rooms, a spa and gym, a tennis court, separate staff quarters and a commercial kitchen that can cater for parties of up to 400.

The property is priced at £90 million ($119 million) and being sold internationally by London-based agents Beauchamp Estates. It is also the most expensive American home ever listed with a British agency.
