Hugh Jackman is very optimistic that Wolverine and Iron Man will appear in the same movie.

Talking to us while promoting his new film ‘Chappie’, we asked if he honestly thought that Marvel characters owned by Disney – for example those in the Avengers films – could team up with those owned by Fox – which include Wolverine, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Watch our interview with Jackman below.

He said: “You know, I think as an optimist I would love it. That’s the best thing about comic books; you can just pitch these characters into each other.

“I’m surprised by what’s happened with Spider-Man joining. You’re in a very complex world where big, big sums of money are being spent for different franchises and so getting them together is difficult.

“Two years ago I’d have said you’d be a real optimist to think it’d ever happen, but weirdly now I just think it maybe could. I think there is the possibility that it will happen.”

His comments show that the recent deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel, which will see Spider-Man team up with The Avengers characters in a future film, has shifted the goalposts significantly for Marvel superheroes owned by different studios appearing together on the big screen.

We asked him which Avengers character he’d like to see appear in a Wolverine film, and his answer unsurprisingly was Iron Man… as long as Robert Downey Jr. was still playing the role.

“I can’t think of him as anyone else. They are inseparable…. I would love to do that.”

‘Chappie’, which is directed by ‘District 9’ helmer Neill Blonkamp, is the story of a police enforcement robot (voiced by Sharlto Copley) that develops artificial intelligence. Jackman plays a villainous robot designer trying to shut him down and co-stars with Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver.

'Chappie' is released in the UK on 6 March 2015. Watch the trailer below.
