Five players of the Humboldt Broncos who survived the bus crash made a special presentation to Ben Stelter and his family ahead of Game 4 between the Colorado Avalanche and Edmonton.

Six-year-old Stelter has become a key member of the Oilers’ organization as he’s kept inspiring the players during his courageous battle with a type of brain cancer known as glioblastoma.

Before puck drop, the Broncos players, which included Brayden Camrud, Grayson Cameron, Tyler Smith, Derek Patter and Ryan Straschnitzki, presented the Stelter family with a contribution to offset the medical costs for Ben’s condition.

On April 6, 2018, a semi driver failed to stop in north-central Saskatchewan and drove into the path of a team’s bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), killing 16 people and injuring 13 others.

A few days prior to the fourth anniversary of the fatal bus crash on April 1st, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation 50/50 raffle benefited the Humboldt Broncos Tribute Campaign, which is looking to build a memorial and tribute center in Humboldt, Sask.

On Monday, it was the Broncos’ turn to bring support to the Oilers and one of their most important fans, Ben Stelter.

Straschnitzki was paralyzed from the chest down in the accident and has undergone many procedures to try to stimulate nerves and move limbs. In the past four years, Straschnitzki has made tremendous progress as he’s been able to stand on his own and take a few steps with a walker.

Ben Stelter and his family were shown on the jumbotron during Game 3 on Saturday night and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Despite the good vibes in the crowd, Edmonton was unable to keep their season alive with a win and fell to the Avalanche in a sweep.
