Hunger Games: Catching Fire DVD out in February?

Retail listing gives clue to home version release date

COMMENT | We've all seen the movie on the big screen, many of us more than once, and soon enough 'Hunger Games' fans will have the opportunity to own the second movie in the 'Hunger Games' series to view in the comfort of their own home. The release date for the DVD and Blu-ray discs of 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' have yet to be officially confirmed, as Lionsgate are keeping a tight rein on the release of the home version of the movie, particularly while the cinematic version is still raking in the cash.

However, the American retailer Target has listed both the DVD and Blu-ray editions of 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' on its website, in the process leaking all of the extra features and content that the discs will feature. This is an exciting early opportunity for fans to contemplate the additional features and deleted scenes which will be included on the disc for all those fans of the 'Hunger Games' who wish to see 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' the way that director intended (although, personally, I can only ever recall preferring the director's cut of 'Blade Runner' to the original movie).

Thus, we now know that the 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' home release will feature a film-maker commentary from Francis Lawrence, a nine part documentary which looks at how the movie was made, a selection of deleted scenes from the movie, and apparently there may also be a definitive director's cut included on the disc, which will integrate the deleted scenes into the film much as been achieved in the past with films such as 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day'.

Also included in the bonus material on the disc is a documentary called 'One Vision', which purports to show how Suzanne Collins' novel was brought alive on the big screen, 'The Alliance', which is an inside look at the close-knit relationships of the returning actors, and 'Friend or Foe', which deals with the challenge of perfectly embodying the new characters which appear in the 'Hunger Games' sequel.

While we don't yet know the date that these discs will be made available, another element of the disc does give us a clue regarding its release date. The 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' DVD and Blu-ray will both apparently feature a 'sneak peak' of the forthcoming movie 'Divergent', another dystopian sci-fi flick which stars Kate Winslet. The release date of this movie has already been confirmed to be 21st March, 2014, so we can certainly expect the DVD to come out before then. It would seem based on this information that a February release would be likely.
