"Carmen Emmi is one of those unique talents who truly deserves a platform for his creative ingenuity," they said.

"Plainclothes is a heartfelt story that deals with internal conflict, family and the complexities of sexual identity in the face of societal and personal expectations. We are excited to bring his first screenplay life with this incredible cast."

Blyth was also recently announced for Michael Winterbottom's new film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's classic novel A Farewell to Arms, and the director called him "the perfect person to be Frederic Henry."

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which featured Blyth's breakthrough performance, ended on the ambiguous note of whether protagonist Lucy Gray Baird survived Snow gunning for her or not.

"I'd lived in [Snow's] body for quite a while, and he [goes] through so many different, subtle transformations,” the actor previously told EW.

"To be with him in that moment – that rage bubbling up inside him, which is then going to inform the rest of his life – I felt heartbroken for him... I think it's great that we don't know whether he succeeds."
