Ian McKellen’s ‘Mr. Holmes’ to Premiere at San Francisco Festival

The San Francisco Intl. Film Society will host the U.S. premiere of Bill Condon’s “Mr. Holmes,” starring Ian McKellen, Laura Linney and Milo Parker, April 25 at 12:30 p.m. at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas.

McKellen reteams with his “Gods and Monsters” director Condon for the film, set in 1947 with an aging Sherlock Holmes in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities. Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son.

The film is loosely adapted from Mitch Cullin’s novel “A Slight Trick of the Mind.” Roadside Attractions and Miramax will release the film July 17.

Producers are Anne Carey of Archer Gray Productions and Iain Canning and Emile Sherman of See-Saw Films (“The King’s Speech”). Executive producers are Aviv Giladi and Len Blavatnik of AI Film, Christine Langan on behalf of BBC Films and Amy Nauiokas for Archer Gray Productions.
