Idina Menzel Answers Campaign To Give Elsa From Frozen A Girlfriend

‘Frozen’ star Idina Menzel thinks it’s ‘great’ to give Elsa a girlfriend.

During an interview with ET Online, the 44-year-old voice actress addressed the online campaign to give Elsa a girlfriend in ‘Frozen 2’… and it seems she’s all for it.

“I think it’s great,” she said. “Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out.” And when asked if she’d support the decision (if it actually happened) she responded: “No matter what… “[the character] changed my life.”

A recent Twitter campaign saw hordes of ‘Frozen’ fans campaigning to make Elsa a lesbian in the upcoming sequel, with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend going viral.

Alexis Isabel Moncada was the first Twitter user to bring up the idea… with a tweet which read: “I hope Disney makes Elsa a lesbian princess imagine how iconic that would be.” And her follow up tweet has been retweeted over 2200 times so far.

Clearly, there’s plenty of support for the idea, and given Disney’s lack of LGBT characters, it seems like a rather progressive move. But it could already be a bit too late…

After all, the upcoming ‘Frozen’ sequel has already been written.

“They’ve just written it and they’re still doing tweaks,” said ‘Frozen’ star Kristen Bell in an interview with Collider. “But I think we should be recording this month. The story is great, and they exude quality. What I know about that whole team is that they wouldn’t just put something out to put it out. That’s why it took them so long to even announce that we were doing a second one.”

Still, let’s hope that Disney will at least consider it…

Especially if ‘Frozen’ fans refuse to Let It Go.
