Idris Elba And J.K. Simmons Will Be In Disney’s Zootropolis

The full cast for Disney’s ‘Zootropolis’ (that’s ‘Zootopia’ to anyone outside of the UK) has been announced, and it includes Idris Elba and J.K. Simmons.

The animated buddy comedy stars Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde and Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps, set in the animal city of Zootopia.

Things kick off when fast-talking fox Nick is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, so is forced to go on the run. Hopps, a strait-laced bunny cop, is hot on Wilde’s heels, but subsequently pairs up with the unlikely ally to uncover the truth and become pals along the way.

The new cast news lists Elba as Chief Bogo (the mean-looking bull, below), and Oscar-winner Simmons as Mayor Lionheart (a lion, surprisingly), but we’re unsure how prominently they’ll feature in the main story.

Pop star Shakira is Gazella and announced her involvement the other month. She’ll play a gazelle, if that wasn’t clear. While Octavia Spencer plays Mrs. Otterton - we’re sure you can guess her anthropomorphised animal.

J.K. Simmons’ Mayor (below) looks rather well-to-do. We hope he’ll be given enough to sink his teeth into.

Alan Tudyk is Duke Weaselton (below), a small-time criminal. Any ‘Frozen’ fans will also makes the name connection, because (even though it’s spelled slightly differently) he also voiced the Duke of Weselton in the hit film.

Raymond Persi, a Disney story artist, features as the ironically named Flash (below) - he’s a sloth, FYI - and has a lot of potential to be a scene-stealer, if he’s granted enough screen time, that is.

For obvious reasons we’re excited about this one. Not only have Disney significantly upped their game where animation is concerned, but the casting looks to be spot on.
