IFC Orders Comedy ‘Benders’ Produced By Denis Leary

IFC has picked up the hockey-themed comedy series “Benders” from Denis Leary’s Apostle production banner.

The half-hour series revolves around a group of beer-swilling friends who participate in a amateur hockey league. “Benders” was created by Tom Sellitti and Jim Serpico, who is Leary’s longtime partner in Apostle. The pair exec produce with Leary.

IFC president Jennifer Caserta called the show “the type of fresh, original comedy that complements our existing programming slate.”

Production of eight episodes is set to begin soon with the goal of premiering late in the year. Apostle is also the production banner behind IFC’s Marc Maron series “Maron.”

“We cherish our relationship with IFC,” said Serpico. “We’re thrilled to be bringing our dysfunctional band of characters to life on their network.”
