I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here contestant Roman Kemp has opened up about having pop megastar George Micheal as his godfather.

The Capital FM DJ is the son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp and former Wham! singer Shirlie Holliman - the couple met through George Michael and made him godfather when son Roman was born in 1993.

And Kemp Jr has now revealed he will have no qualms about opening up on his famous godfather Michael, who died on Christmas Day 2016, when he enters the jungle.

Affectionately known as Yog, derived from the pronunciation of his Greek birth name, Roman has said George was ‘like an uncle’.

Speaking to The Sun ahead of the first night in the Australian camp, he said: “The memories I have of Yog are amazing. He was a dear part of my family, so if someone asks, it’s never a negative.

“It’s how much love I have for this guy and how much he had for everyone around him.

“I’ve never held any bad memories of Yog. I was very fortunate, with an amazing childhood. I’m super-pleased to have known him as closely as I did.”

Though relatively famous in his own right already due to his broadcast career, Kemp’s impending stint on I’m a Celebrity… has lead to extra scrutiny. He was forced to take to social media last week to apologise for historic comments made about Korean pop band BTS, which fans of the group branded racist.

After referring to one of their songs on his radio show as ‘that noise’ he become caught up in a row with the band’s supporters.

Posting on social media, he said in response to the controversy, he said: "I don’t associate myself with that. I know the person who wrote those things is not the man I am now, but they were there.

"I don’t want the legacy I have on the internet to be a place where there is negativity, or something that can cause offence.

"For anyone that has ever been offended by something I have said online, I am truly, deeply and utterly sorry.”

I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here 2019 starts on ITV at 9pm tonight.
