Inside Out Passes $700 Million At Box Office

‘Inside Out’ has passed yet another milestone at the box office. Having been roundly lauded by critics and audiences alike it has now become just the fifth Pixar film to pass $700 million.

According to Variety, ‘Inside Out’ has amassed $343 million at the US box office, which means that it is currently the highest grossing animated film of 2015. ‘Minions’ is lagging behind with $321.5 million at the US box office.

However, ‘Minions’ has already surpassed ‘Inside Out’s’ overall haul around the world, as it has so far taken in $991.8 million and still has to be released in the likes of Italy, Turkey, and China.

But this isn’t about those monosyllabic, jaundice, ne’er-do-wells. This is about Riley, Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust, and their collective efforts have seen it become the second-highest grossing Pixar film to reach this amount domestically during its original run. It’s lagging just behind ‘Toy Story 3’s’ $415 million.

And just to let you know, because I know you were wondering, the other four Pixar films to have grossed over $700 million are ‘Up’, ‘Monsters University’, ‘Finding Nemo’, and ‘Toy Story 3’.

It’s been a rather impressive box office run for ‘Inside Out’. Having been released just seven days after ‘Jurassic World’ stormed the box office and took in its record-breaking haul, there were originally worries that it might falter.

However, it then went on to take in $90.4 million over its opening weekend. And even though it meant it only finished second at the box office behind ‘JW’ for that week, it still registered the highest ever opening for an original property. Which is a staggering achievement.

In fact, its box office return in the USA has been so impressive that, domestically, it is the fourth highest 2015 release, falling just behind ‘Jurassic World’, ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’, and ‘Furious 7’.

In conclusion, Pixar can be very happy with the film’s work, and let’s hope that it inspires many more studios to proceed with bold, innovative material.
