Insidious: Fourth Film Announced For Horror Series

Get ready for more ghostly goings-on, as ‘Insidious Chapter 4′ is confirmed to be in the works.

Sony broke the news at the ongoing Cinema Con in Las Vegas, Bloody Disgusting report. No further details are confirmed other than that the film is being developed, but it seems likely that Leigh Whannell will return on writer-director duties.

Whannell co-created ‘Insidious’ with James Wan, who directed the first two films in the series before moving on to ‘Fast & Furious 7,’ clearing the way for Whannell to make his directorial debut on last year’s ‘Insidious Chapter 3.’

It also seems likely Whannell will reprise his supporting role as Specs alongside Lin Shaye as Elise and Angus Sampson as Tucker, the trio of paranormal investigators who are the main connecting tissue between the existing three films.

Prior to ‘Insidious,’ Whannell and Wan made their breakthrough as the writer-director team behind 2004′s ‘Saw,’ which launched the popular, long-running extreme torture horror series, which collectively grossed over $873.3 million (£614.7 million) worldwide.

The altogether milder ‘Insidious’ movies, produced by horror hitmakers Blumhouse Films, have thus far amassed $371.9 million (£261.8 million) at the global box office.

While this might not sound like blockbuster numbers, the films have made a huge profit as each film was made for comparatively low budgets (’insidious’ = $1.5 million, ‘Insidious Chapter 2′ = $5 million, ‘Insidious Chapter 3′ = $10 million).

No release date for ‘Insidious Chapter 4′ has been announced.
