IPL 2021: T Natarajan Tested COVID-19 Positive; Six Players Isolated

The deadly COVID-19 virus has come back to haunt IPL 2021 once again as Sunrisers Hyderabad cricketer T Natarajan has tested positive. The cricketer is currently asymptomatic; however, he has been placed in isolation.

The medical team has identified the below-mentioned six close contacts of the player, who have also been placed in isolation. BCCI issued a statement to confirm the same.

They wrote:

“Sunrisers Hyderabad player T Natarajan tested positive for COVID-19 at a scheduled RT-PCR test. The player has isolated himself from the rest of the squad. He is currently asymptomatic.”

The six close contacts identified by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s medical team are Vijay Shankar, team manager Vijay Kumar, physio, Shyam Sundar J, doctor Anjana Vannan, logistic manager Tushar Khedkar, and net bowler Periyasamy Ganesan.

The other members of the squad have undergone RT-PCR tests; however, the results have come negative. BCCI confirmed that the match will go as per the schedule.

“The rest of the contingent including the close contacts underwent RT-PCR tests at 5AM local time this morning and the test reports are negative. As a result, tonight’s game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals will go ahead at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai,” statement read.

Earlier on May 4, IPL 2021 was postponed after a couple of cricketers and support staff tested for COVID-19 positive. It resumed after almost four months in the UAE on September 19 with defending champions Mumbai Indians playing against Chennai Super Kings. The MS Dhoni-led side secured a convincing victory to go on the top of the points table.
