When Jamie Oliver was announced as the face of a coronavirus-inspired cooking programme for Channel 4 there was a huge backlash as it was suggested Jack Monroe, aka the Bootstrap Cook, should've got the gig – but now she's landed her own show on BBC One.

She will be joined by Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt for the new venture, Daily Kitchen.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Monroe wrote: "From Monday 13th April, BBC One launches a brand new show with the very experienced and lovely Matt Tebbutt AND ME. Based on Saturday Kitchen, it's called Daily Kitchen and it's on from 10am-11am.

“And I'm petrified and thrilled and absolutely HOOTING WITH JOY."

The cook is well known for her easy, accessible and low-budget recipes so when Oliver was unveiled as host for Keep Cooking and Carry On, creating recipes using just kitchen cupboard ingredients, many were upset that Monroe hadn't been handed the job.

She thanked her fans for their support and claimed the programme wouldn't have happened without their help.

"I can say confidently this wouldn't have happened without you all and the absolute STINK you kicked up demanding I have a show," she shared.

"So thank you for believing in me, and I look forward to disappointing you in new and myriad ways on a daily basis! Gotta go call my Mum now. xxx."

Cooks Tom Kerridge and Nigella Lawson were also among those whom she extended her gratitude to.

Monroe has also been helping out her Twitter followers daily in the wake of the coronavirus via 'Jack Monroe's Lockdown Larder' by encouraging them to share their cupboard ingredients with her so she can make recipe suggestions.
