James Acaster's Ghostbusters character is an "Egon Spengler type"
James Acaster will play an "Egon Spengler type" character in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Opening up about Acaster's role in Frozen Empire, Afterlife director Jason Reitman, who is part of the writing team for the sequel, revealed some key details about the Taskmaster star's new character.
According to Reitman, the British comedian will be taking inspiration from classic Ghostbusters character - Harold Ramis' Egon Spengler.

"James is not playing a Spengler, but he really falls in line with the Egon Spengler 'type'," Reitman told Empire, alongside the release of an exclusive image of Acaster in character.
The Off Menu podcast co-host is set to star as a character named Lars Pinfield, a man responsible for providing some of the new ghost busting technology which is being funded by Ernie Hudson's Winston.
Directed by Gil Kenan, the new movie sees the Spengler family team up with the original Ghostbusters to bust ghosts as the action returns to the iconic New York City firehouse.
Returning for the sequel are Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Carrie Coon as the late Egon Spengler's family. They will be joined by franchise returnee Paul Rudd. Also returning for the sequel are original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Dan Aykroyd as Raymond Stantz and Annie Potts, who is reprising her role as Janine Melnitz.

Speaking recently, Potts said of her character finally becoming a Ghostbuster: "I have to say I did [get a kick out of it]. Janine has served long and well, and I felt like she was finally getting her stripes, you know?
"She's clearly stayed in touch with the guys [between Ghostbusters II and Frozen Empire], and she's really been the keeper of the flame at the Firehouse. The Ghostbusters are kind of superheroes, so it's very nice to finally be seen in that way, too."
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is released in cinemas on March 29.
