James Gunn Could Have Made A DC Superhero Movie

It looks as though James Gunn almost made a DC movie.

During a Facebook Q&A, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director revealed that he passed up opportunities to make a DC movie… and he likely wouldn’t be interested now, either.

“I thought there was some amazing action sequences in Man of Steel, but I haven’t seen [Batman V Superman or Suicide Squad],” he said. “I’ve had opportunities to make DC films, but I haven’t said yes to anything, and not sure I would at this time.”

Of course, James Gunn is now firmly embedded in Marvel’s big screen universe.

After creating the surprise smash hit ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, he’s back on board for the upcoming sequel, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’.

But which DC characters would he like to tackle?

“I’ve talked before about which projects appeal to me the most IF I was into making one,” he added. “And it’s always Shazam and Metal Men and Swamp Thing and Johan Hex and a few other DC IPs I’ve enjoyed for a great deal of my life.”

And when asked which female character he would like to bring to the big screen, he replied with another DC regular.

“Maybe Batgirl,” he said. “Cassandra Cain version.”

Unfortunately, it looks as though it’s just not meant to be.

After all, he’s settled in rather nicely over at Marvel, but has already expressed desire to eventually leave comic book movies behind. He even recently cast doubts on whether or not he would return for a third ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie.

“GotG 3 will probably happen, but there’s no real plans for it yet,” he said via Twitter. “I haven’t decided what I’m doing after 2.”

If he does decide to move on, I’m sure DC would have him.

Whether or not he wants to go there is another question entirely.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ heads to cinemas on 28 April 2017.
