Jamie Foxx: Tarantino gave us shots

20 January 2013

Jamie Foxx has revealed that his Django Unchained director Quentin Tarantino rewarded his cast with tequila shots.

The Oscar-winning star - who plays the title role of slave Django in the movie - said the filmmaker was great to work with and makes sure he thanked the actors.

"I've never been on a set where it's been that much fun," said Jamie. "He plays music in between takes. Every hundred rolls of film we take shots, either tequila, or the last thing we had was Mint Julep. Working on something like this, you need that release."

He continued: "And he's gracious. I watched him when we were on the chain gang and we're locked in these chains, it's 28 degrees, but he went to every person, every guy that was on the chain gang, whether he had a line or whether he was in the background, and made sure they were OK.

"Those types of things, when you work in our business, are huge and it makes the process enjoyable."

Jamie also admitted he felt humbled that Tarantino would have picked him to play the lead in the movie, which is part slave narrative, part spaghetti Western and part revenge romp.

"I had seen Quentin at a lot of parties, but I was just honoured to be, you know, considered for the role," he said.

For his next part, Jamie is thought to be playing Spider-Man's nemesis Electro, but he revealed he wouldn't rule out becoming one of Tarantino's frequent collaborators, like Christoph Waltz, who also stars in Django Unchained.

"I look forward to having that type of relationship with Quentin here on out," said the star.

:: Django Unchained, which also stars Kerry Washington, is in cinemas now.
