Foxx even teased fans with the possibility on his Twitter account, saying: “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”

Electro is a long-standing villain in the Spider-Man universe, having been first introduced in 1964, though he has never been portrayed on screen.

He is the super alter-ego of elecrical engineer Maxwell Dillon, who was mutated after a freak lightening accident, and who seeks electrical equipment to increase his power.

Foxx would join Garfield and Emma Stone resprising Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy, and Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, with Marc Webb once again directing.

He's currently building up to the storm of press duties surrounding his lead role in Quentin Tarantino's new film, 'Django Unchained', out on Christmas Day in the US, and January 18 in the UK.
