Update: Alas, our dreams have been dashed, and it looks like the rumours that Janelle Monáe will star in Deadpool 2 as Domino are unfounded.

Co-writer Rhett Reese didn't spare our feelings as he ripped off that plaster.

Original story: Fresh off her appearances in Moonlight and Hidden Figures (where she stole every scene she was in), singer/actress/android Janelle Monáe is rumoured to be taking on her first comic book franchise role.

According to That Hashtag Show, Monáe is the frontrunner to play the character of Domino in the highly-anticipated Deadpool sequel.

It was originally reported by the same people that Kerry Washington was up for the role, but they say this is no longer the case.

This is all currently speculation, so we've reached out for comment and will update as soon as we know more.

We're really hoping this one turns out to be true because we think Janelle would be perfect for the role.

She is extremely witty and would definitely be able to keep up with Ryan Reynolds' one-liners, plus her music career is based around her android alter-ego who lives in a segregated future.

She'd fit in with the weirdness of the X-Men universe is what we're saying.

Plus, she can pull off a black and white colour scheme like no-one else.

Having said that... Janelle's latest studio album The Electric Lady came out in 2013 and her Metropolis concept series has yet to be wrapped up.

We know you can't rush genius, and we wouldn't turn down a role in Deadpool 2 either, but the thirst for a new Janelle Monáe studio album is real.
