Julia Fox may not be at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards tonight, but her doppelgänger is!
Jared Leto appeared at New Jersey’s Prudential Center in a look that was eerily reminiscent of a certain Uncut Gems muse. The actor and singer—whose band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, is among tonight’s nominees—walked the walk in an all-black outfit fit for either the annals of infamous VMAs red-carpet fashion or the set of a dystopian sci-fi thriller.
Leto wore a transparent black mesh long-sleeved underneath a boxy sleeveless tunic with black leather panels. He continued the leather theme with his choice of footwear: slouchy thigh-high leather platform boots with a clear PVC stiletto heel. Accessories included a metallic silver choker with a matching cuff bracelet, black shield sunglasses, and sleeveless leather gloves. Oh, and he nailed Fox’s trademark beauty look by smudging his own black eyeliner across his eyes to the ends of his temples.
Meanwhile, Leto’s bandmate and older brother, Shannon Leto, also wore an all-black outfit—albeit a tamer version that included an oversize short-sleeved button-up, billowing trousers, and leather platform boots.
Tonight, Thirty Seconds to Mars’s song “Stuck” has been nominated in the category of Best Alternative. Fellow nominees include blink-182, Boygenius, Fall Out Boy, Lana del Rey and Jon Batiste, and Paramore.
Leto explained the meaning of “Stuck” in a recent interview with Forbes. “It’s a song about being stuck in a certain cycle or stuck in a relationship or an addiction or a part of your life that you want to break free from, and then ultimately having that abandon, that raucous abandon,” he said.
