Jared Leto really wants to play The Joker again, but has made it clear that the decision really isn’t up to him.
The Oscar winning actor admitted as much during a recent interview with Variety when he was quizzed about his future as the super-villain. “I would definitely play the Joker again. It all depends on the script and the circumstances as it always does.”
There have been rumours that Leto might return as the Joker, who he has portrayed just once in 2016’s Suicide Squad, in Birds Of Prey, which is a stand alone Harley Quinn movie that brings in a number of other female villains from the DC world.
Leto remained coy when asked about the chances of him appearing in this film, remarking, “I don’t think so. You’d have to ask them … Well, we’ll see.”
If Leto does pop up in Birds Of Prey when it is released in February, 2020, then it is going to be a busy couple of months for the Joker. That’s because Joaquin Phoenix is going to make his debut as the character in Todd Phillips’ stand alone psychological thriller, which is set in 1981 and has nothing to do with the other films from the DC Extended Universe.
There’s still a chance Leto will return as the Joker in Suicide Squad 2, as the script for the film has been finished and there are plans for it be released in 2021.

Leto already has plans to return to the comic-book world anyway, as he is currently shooting Morbius, another villain, who this time is a vampire, and regularly goes up against Spider-Man.
Clearly Leto is excited to play Morbius, as he told Variety that doing so was a childhood dream come true. We’ll get to see what he can muster up in the role when Morbius is released on July 31, 2020.
