Jared Leto's Joker Stars On New Suicide Squad Empire Cover

Empire Magazine has provided us with our clearest look yet at Jared Leto’s Joker ahead of the release of ‘Suicide Squad’ next year, and it’s sure to be as controversial as ever.

The subscriber’s cover of the magazine’s next issue shows Leto sporting a purple leather trench coat, the tattoos we’ve already seen, a cane and some Arkham-branded trousers.

To date Leto’s Joker has only been seen from the chest up, covered in those controversial tats and in a close-up in 'Suicide Squad’s first trailer (below). The cane if you’re wondering, is a nice nod to early incarnations of the character,

The regular cover of Empire’s latest issue is likely to feature Leto as well, and may give us another look at the character. There may also be further images inside the issue, not to mention chatter with the cast and crew. We’ll find out more later this week.

'Suicide Squad’ stars Leto alongside Margot Robbie as The Joker’s long-time companion and partner in crime Harley Quinn, and also Will Smith as Deadshot, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.

The film will also star Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Karen Fukuhara as Katana and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.

‘Suicide Squad’ follows a group of imprisoned criminals tasked to complete dangerous black ops missions by the US government. It is part of Warner Bros’ expanding DC Cinematic Universe, which began with ’Man of Steel’ and continues early next year with ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

Directed by 'Fury’s David Ayer, the film will also feature a cameo from Ben Affleck’s Batman and will be released on 5 August 2016.
