Jason Momoa has admitted he was "absolutely baffled" that Aquaman was so well received by audiences.

After first debuting the underwater superhero in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as reprising the role in 2017's Justice League, Momoa's Aquaman got his own solo movie in 2018.

The film was positively received by fans and became the highest-grossing DC movie to date, although Momoa was a little confused as to why.

"Well, to be perfectly honest, I was absolutely baffled that Aquaman was received so well," the Game of Thrones actor revealed in a new interview with Men's Health.

"I’ve done things that are amazing that no one sees and no one gives a shit about. You just don’t know in this business."

He added: "I don’t do things and think, 'Oh, I’m gonna get $1 billion on this one'. I go in and do my best job."

Momoa is set to star in the sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, later this year – but he doesn't feel any pressure going in to it.

"It’s not that I don’t care about Aquaman; it’s a wonderful character. Aquaman is probably the hardest character in comic-book history," he shared.

"He’s made fun of and ridiculed, but I tried to give it heart and soul, and I’m proud of it in certain ways.

"Do I feel pressure for [the sequel] to do well? No. All I can do is give it my all. But it’s in a lot of other people’s hands."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom currently has a release date of December 25, 2023 in the US and December 29, 2023 in the UK.
