Javier Bardem In Talks For Universal’s Frankenstein

‘Frankenstein’ may have already found its monster.

According to Variety, the 47-year-old Spanish actor is currently being pursued for Universal’s new ‘Frankenstein’ movie… but will he be playing the doctor or the monster?

“Sources tell Variety that Javier Bardem is in talks to star as Frankenstein in Universal’s classic monster movie series,” they revealed. “It’s currently unknown which monster feature Bardem would first appear in.”

Thankfully, reporter Justin Kroll was able to clarify exactly who Bardem will play.

“To be clear, he would be playing the monster in some form,” he said via Twitter. “Not Victor.”

Of course, this all part of Universal’s attempts to revamp the classic ‘Monsters’ into a franchise… and while the studio is currently developing ‘Frankenstein’ as well as ‘Bride of Frankenstein’, it’s unknown where Bardem would make his debut appearance.

In fact, it’s thought that Bardem might appear in an earlier movie.

For instance, ‘The Mummy’ starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe is about to wrap, with Sofia Boutella as the titular Mummy… and it’s already rumoured that Javier Bardem could make an appearance here. After all, he was originally set to appear in the movie as iconic horror character, Dr Jekyll. The role eventually went to Crowe.

But will Javier Bardem sign up as the most iconic monster in film history?

I can’t help thinking he’d be absolutely perfect for the role. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, it looks as though Universal’s ‘Monsters’ franchise is gathering steam.

And it won’t be long before we see Frankenstein back on the big screen.
