Jeff Goldblum defends Ian Malcolm's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom role

Jeff Goldblum wasn't concerned about the backlash to his small appearance in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom when he signed on for sequel Jurassic World Dominion.

The star featured heavily in trailers for JA Bayona's 2018 movie, but ultimately had just a few minutes of screen time as Dr Ian Malcolm gave evidence to a Senate hearing.

"I don't really focus on that. Who said there are no small parts, just small actors?" Goldblum told Yahoo in an interview to promote Dominion.

Jurassic World Dominion is in IMAX and UK cinemas from 10 June.

TOM BEASLEY: When you were in the last film, there was some disappointment I think that your role was so small. And then in this one, obviously, how important was it for you to be able to be such a big part of it?

JEFF GOLDBLUM: Well, I don't know about that. I don't really focus on that. And I was very happy with my--

I wasn't on screen that much. But I thought the implication of how I developed, what brought me to that point, and what I had to say, which was a moment in which I had to be articulate and it was urgent and of deep and passionate interest to me was interesting and with Colin Trevorrow in that movie because he wrote it. JA Bayona directed it.

So no, the size of the part didn't concern me this time either. I thought I hope I have something that I can contribute something interesting and satisfying. And I was thrilled to be with Laura Dern and Sam Neill and with Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise and Omar Sy and Dichen Lachman and Campbell Scott and all the-- BD Wong again.

MAMOUDOU ATHIE: BD, man, come on. BD Wong.

JEFF GOLDBLUM: And Justice Smith.

TOM BEASLEY: He's always there.

MAMOUDOU ATHIE: Since the beginning. It's amazing.

JEFF GOLDBLUM: He's got an interesting story in this movie. Yeah, so I was thrilled.
