Jena Malone Continues To Dodge Batman V Superman Casting Question

Jena Malone, heavily rumoured to have a key role in Warner Bros/DC’s highly anticipated ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ is still refusing to give a straight answer on the matter.

We can hardly hold the ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ actress at fault for this; non-disclosure agreements are standard Hollywood practice, and there have already been murmurs that the leak which allegedly revealed Malone’s role late last year may face serious legal repercussions.

In case you missed it, word around the campfire is that Malone - who previously worked with director Zack Snyder on the critically reviled ‘Sucker Punch’ - may have been cast as Carrie Kelley, the female Robin introduced in Frank Miller’s iconic graphic novel ‘The Dark Knight Returns.’

When Moviefone asked Malone whether she was able to talk about this, her reply was, “ummmm… no.”

Still, when it was suggested that the genre might be ‘bereft’ of strong female role models, the actress was happy to speak her mind:

I don’t think that it’s bereft. I mean look at “Hunger Games” — are you kidding me? It doesn’t matter [that ‘Hunger Games’ isn’t a comic book]. You’re turning something into a film, you’re creating a myth. What is a comic book but a written myth?

"I feel like there’s so much negativity, but we create. We’re still making things. It’s not about having as much as they have, it’s about continuing the conversation."

There were immediate murmurs that Malone might have become the new Robin when she was first appeared publicly sporting red hair in a style not too dissimilar to that of Carrie Kelley. Of course, having not long since turned 30, Malone is rather older than the 13-year old character as she appears in ‘The Dark Knight Returns.’

Then in October 2014 an extra on the Michigan set of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ reportedly told local TV news that the film did indeed star Malone as a female Robin (see the video of this report below) - actions which it was later said could land the unknown extra a fine as large as $5 million.

Perhaps we won’t know for sure if Jena Malone is in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (and if so which role she is playing) until the film finally arrives in March 2016 - but we can soon see the actress in Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice,’ in cinemas 30 January.
